A video of a young man committing suicide has been circulating on social media for a few days.

The video, which had the simple title “1444” on YouTube, was shown for hours before it was removed from YouTube. In the meantime, however, it was uploaded several times and spread on both Twitter and WhatsApp.

In addition, a horror story á la “Momo” was added: You have to comment on the video with the date of his death (either with the current date or the upload date), otherwise the young man will appear to you at night.

In Spain in particular, the video and the story that it is cursed are still spreading strongly even a week after publication, so it is only a matter of time before it is shared here too.

Is the video real?

Yes. The young man's name was Gleb Korabljov (Глеб Кораблёв), born in September 2001, and lived in Moscow. The video was taken on October 17, 2019. After a few words in Russian, he shoots himself with a Saiga 12 shotgun.

Korabljov streamed the video on the Russian platform “vk.com”. The video continued to run for two hours until the police arrived and turned off the camera. Shortly after, it was shared on Reddit and eventually YouTube under the name “1444.” The number has no special meaning and apparently was just intended to fool the YouTube algorithm so that it wouldn't be automatically deleted.

Why should the video be cursed?

The young man's last words were:

“Nikita, if you tell your parents too quickly, I’ll rise from the grave and get you. I know you have her phone number. However…. What's the saying? Nya bye!”

The last two words (in Russian: “Nya poka, ня пока”) refer to a Russian meme . These were also the last words in a picture of Rina Palenkova, who supposedly jumped in front of a train as a final request in the “ Blue Whale Challenge .”
The words addressed to Nikita that he would come out of his grave were only roughly translated by many sources, which quickly gave rise to rumors that the video was cursed.

Conclusion

You should pay particular attention on WhatsApp, as in Spain the video is also circulating in a 3 second version, where you only see the part of the video in which he shoots himself.
You should also under no circumstances click on links on WhatsApp that refer to a video with the name “1444” or “14.44”. However, there is no curse on the video, but there is a tragic suicide that should not be distributed further on the Internet.
