Serious fraud via instant messaging app : In the period between November 2021 and May 2022, a 66-year-old Danish woman living in Salzburg was the victim of fraud.
Unknown perpetrators contacted the victim via an instant messaging app and tricked the lady into believing that several accounts abroad in her name had been frozen with a total of 149,000 euros.
The victim now has to pay several euros in taxes due and will then have the money transferred. In total, the victim transferred tens of thousands of euros in cryptocurrencies to the unknown perpetrators. However, she saw nothing of the promised winnings and filed a complaint.
