The most important thing about the alleged coronavirus cases in Baden-Württemberg in brief:

  1. An alleged newspaper article reports new coronavirus infections in Baden-Württemberg
  2. However, the article is riddled with spelling errors and incorrect information
  3. As the “ Zollern Alb Kurier ” reports, the head of the Zollernalb Clinic denies the rumor

An apparent newspaper article is currently being distributed on WhatsApp reporting four infections with the new coronavirus in the state of Baden-Württemberg in Germany. This is what the shared screenshot looks like:

The obvious newspaper article
The obvious newspaper article

The article, shared on social media, begins as follows:

“ALBSTADT. The new virus from China called “Corona”, which has been spreading worldwide since the beginning of this year and recently triggered the alarm bell in Germany, has now made itself known to 4 other people from Baden-Württemberg. The Balingen area is affected. The town is located about 70km south of Stuttgart.”

The item is not genuine!

The text, which is supposed to look like a newspaper report, is not only full of spelling errors, but also contains incorrect information right at the beginning: The newly emerged virus is not called “Corona”, but 2019-nCoV, now also simplified in some media as “Wuhan virus " designated.

The often used general term “coronavirus” is misleading, as coronaviruses are an entire family, named for their appearance under the microscope: the spiked surface of the viruses is reminiscent of a crown (Latin: corona). The most notorious representatives of the coronaviruses caused SARS and MERS.

As the “ Zollern Alb Kurier ” reports: The clinic boss also denies it

As the “ Zollern Alb Kurier ” reports, Dr. Gerhard Hinger, managing director of the Zollernalb Clinic, also the alleged newspaper report. So his employees have instructions, Dr. Hinger should be informed immediately in an emergency.

However, neither he nor his colleagues are aware of any acute or suspected cases. If there were actually cases in the Zollernalb district, Dr. Hinger and colleagues were the first to know about this, as infections with 2019-nCoV must be reported to the health department immediately.

Conclusion

The alleged newspaper article is a false report in order to create uncertainty.
