There is nothing that doesn't exist? Not quite. This art project was actually intended to make you think.
We received requests for a video on Facebook. You can see a park bench with a coin slot and pointed metal cylinders that come down when you insert 50 cents and then invite you to sit down!
The fact check
Do you actually want to charge for park benches in public spaces?
Emotions are running high and now it comes:
This park bench really exists!
But:
It is an art project by the Berlin artist Fabian Brunsing and is called Pay & Sit .
This was created in 2008 in collaboration between the FHH Potsdam and the Parsons School of Design in New York.
It's meant to make you think carefully about how commercialization in the city affects us - i.e. the poor have to stand while the rich are allowed to sit down.
So it deals critically with the topic.
So this is about art and not about “real” paying for sitting.
And now it comes:
in China , exactly as the artist certainly did not want. Not critical, but real, if you want to sit down, you have to pay.
There are similar spiked things in every city, against pigeons and, coincidentally, against homeless people. Everyone knows about such things, but only now, almost 10 years after Fabian Brunsing's art project, who has now truly critically examined this situation.
Here it shows, as always, it's worth taking a closer look, Because sometimes a report is true without actually being true, quite a lot of work with the facts.
