The claim
There is always the claim that a decent layer of fat makes you bulletproof.
Our conclusion
The claim is a myth. You have to have a body that is 2 meters wide so that the fat layer is thick enough to absorb a bullet.
Already in 2021, posts claiming that a decent layer of fat would make you bulletproof continued to appear. In May 2022, a woman also posted a video on Facebook repeating this claim and saying she read this in an article.
The “article” was probably more of a Facebook post, as this myth was already debunked in 2007.
The claim
The claim has been circulating on Facebook since at least 2021, mostly in English:

The claim was given new impetus by a video on Facebook .
The claim has been scientifically tested
Of course, purely for ethical reasons, human fat cannot be used to carry out tests with ballistic bullets, which is why ballistic gel is used for this purpose. Although the damage caused by a bullet cannot be determined down to the millimeter, it is still possible to simulate a fairly accurate representation of human and animal muscle and organ density.
In 2007, the site “ The Naked Scientists ” published the title “ How Fat Do You Have to Be to Stop a Bullet? “ their findings. The specific test used a ball bearing that was fired from a barrel using compressed gas. The ball bearing effortlessly penetrated a 36 centimeter long (14.17 inch) ballistic gel tube and shattered the tube. The researchers estimated that a gel layer twice as thick, i.e. a body about 2 meters wide, would be necessary to stop the bullet.
A year later, in November 2008, the TV series “ Mythbusters ” addressed this question. The Mythbusters Results shows the results of the test in written form. For their test, they took the measurements of the fattest man in the world at the time, according to the Guinness Book of Records, with a 302 centimeter waist, 598.5 kilograms weight and an estimated fat layer of around 41 centimeters.
For their test, Adam and Jamie from “Mythbusters” took exactly this amount of cow fat heated to human body heat and attached it in front of the test dummy... but the bullet fired penetrated the fat layer without any problems.
Conclusion
So it's just a myth: You would need a body width of around 2 meters for the fat layer to be thick enough to absorb a bullet. But with dimensions that no human has ever achieved before, you are less likely to find yourself in situations where bullets are fired.

The school shooting in Texas brought this comparison back to light: In Texas you can own as many weapons as you want, but not more than 6 dildos (or pocket pussies).
And the law really exists! Yes, it is actually illegal to have more than 6 dildos (or pocket pussies) in Texas!
