Millions of customer data were publicly accessible online

7.5 million customer data from Creative Cloud subscribers are affected. Adobe confirms that an inadequately secured database made this possible. Adobe promised that measures will be taken immediately to ensure that something like this cannot happen again in the future. Customer data had already been leaked in 2013, which allowed hackers to access encrypted data such as access or payment details.

The affected data

This time, information such as email addresses, member IDs, users' countries of origin and used products from the Creative Cloud were visible.

Passwords and account details could not be read.

Bob Diachenko, security researcher at Security Discovery, and Paul Bischoff, CompariTech journalist, discovered that the affected database allowed access from outside. They immediately informed the Adobe security team.

According to Bob Diachenko's estimate, the database was accessible for about a week. How long this was actually the case is not known. It is also currently not possible to say with certainty whether the open database was discovered by anyone other than the two security researchers. In the best case scenario, this was discovered in good time.

Adobe reacted promptly, has already taken measures and published a statement in its own security blog:

“Adobe cares about transparency with our customers. For this reason, we wanted to release a security update. Late last week, Adobe was made aware of a security vulnerability in one of our prototype environments. We immediately shut down the misconfigured environment and fixed the vulnerability. The environment contained Creative Cloud customer information, including email addresses, but no passwords or financial information. This issue was not related to or affected the operation of any core Adobe products or services. We are reviewing our development processes to prevent a similar issue from occurring in the future.”
