The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution in Germany has classified the AfD youth organization, Junge Alternative (JA), as right-wing extremist. This information was published on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) in Germany. Likewise, the “Institute for State Politics” (IfS) and the association “One Percent eV” are now assessed as organizations with proven right-wing extremist intentions.

Thomas Haldenwang, President of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, explained that “the positions of the Institute for State Policy, One Percent eV and the youth organization of the AfD are no longer compatible with the Basic Law.” These views are likely to exclude people of supposedly other ethnicities and German citizens with a migration background and devaluate.

The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution classifies the “Institute for State Policy”, “One Percent eV” and “Junge Alternative” as confirmed right-wing extremist efforts

In January 2019, the BfV classified the youth organization of the Alternative for Germany (AfD), the “Junge Alternative” (JA), as a suspected case and therefore an object of observation.

In April and June 2020, respectively, the “Institute for State Policy” (IfS) and the association “One Percent eV” were classified as suspected cases by the BfV. The processing of suspected cases has shown that the evidence of efforts against the free democratic basic order has now become a certainty.

The BfV therefore now classifies the IfS, “One Percent eV” and the JA as confirmed right-wing extremist efforts and continues to process them.

The President of the BfV Thomas Haldenwang explains:

“The positions of the 'Institute for State Politics', 'One Percent eV' and the AfD's youth organization 'Junge Alternative' are not compatible with the Basic Law.

There is no longer any doubt that these three groups of people are pursuing anti-constitutional efforts. They are therefore classified and processed by the BfV as confirmed right-wing extremist efforts. The BfV not only focuses on violent extremists, but also keeps an eye on those groups of people who constantly spread ideologies and concepts that are contrary to human dignity and anti-democratic.

The IfS, 'One Percent eV' and the JA aim at the exclusion of supposedly 'foreigners' and try to make these positions socially acceptable. The targeted propagation of enemy images and the fomenting of resentment among the population are generally likely to pave the way for unpeaceful behavior towards those affected. It is the task and duty of the BfV to inform the public about such efforts in order to protect the free, democratic basic order.”

“Institute for State Politics” (IfS)

The information collected and evaluated as part of the suspected case processing of the IfS has made the suspicion of efforts against the free democratic basic order a certainty, both in quantitative and qualitative terms.

This becomes particularly clear in numerous statements that are directed against human dignity (Article 1 Paragraph 1 of the Basic Law).

The leaders of the IfS represent an ethnic and ethnic understanding of the people and strive for a nation that is as ethnoculturally homogeneous as possible. The propagated idea that there is a German people beyond the national people defined in the Basic Law as the entirety of German citizens implies a reduction of naturalized citizens to second-class Germans. This idea is conveyed by the IfS not exclusively, but particularly through the ideologeme of ethnopluralism. In addition, the actors involved claim, in a way that violates human dignity, an impending “dissolution of the German people” and an allegedly taking place “population exchange”, also known as “great exchange”, “repopulation” or “replacement migration”. This ideological and content-related positioning of the IfS is often accompanied by statements according to which (mostly non-European) migrants, refugees, asylum seekers and sometimes people of the Muslim faith are generally assumed to endanger public safety and the “preservation” of the ethnically defined people.

In addition, violations of the principles of democracy and the rule of law can be identified.

“One Percent

eV At “One Percent eV” a quantitative increase in anti-constitutional statements was discovered during the processing of suspected cases;

In addition, the classification as now confirmed extremist endeavor is based in particular on the radicalization of “One Percent eV” in terms of content. The positions represented and propagated demonstrably contain ethnic-nationalist ideologies and are anti-immigrant, xenophobic and anti-Muslim as well as racist. “One Percent eV” also represents a popular concept based on the premises of ethnic origin. The aim of the association is the metapolitical achievement of cultural hegemony and thus the establishment of a corresponding “counterculture”.

To do this, the association uses various strategies to transport the relevant content into the “center of society” and make it accessible and socially acceptable. “Young Alternative” (JA)

With regard to the JA, too, the evidence of efforts against the free democratic basic order has become a certainty.

The condensation results from a consolidation of content and, in some cases, an intensification of extremist positions. The JA's understanding of the people, which is clearly evident in the statements and announcements, contradicts the understanding of the people expressed in the Basic Law and is likely to exclude members of supposedly other ethnic groups and to devalue German citizens with a migration background as second-class Germans.

The JA propagates a ethnic social concept that is based on basic biological assumptions, postulates a nation that is as ethnoculturally homogeneous as possible, excludes migrants of non-European origin as fundamentally unable to be integrated and sees the greatest danger in a supposedly controlled population exchange to destroy the “organically grown European peoples”.

Furthermore, agitation against refugees and migrants is a central and constant theme in the statements of the JA and its members. Xenophobic argumentation patterns are combined with Islamophobic resentment.

In particular, immigrants with (supposedly) Muslim backgrounds are generally assigned negative characteristics, such as cultural backwardness and a disproportionately strong tendency towards crime and violence, simply because of their origin and religion. In addition, efforts against the principle of democracy can be identified. A large number of defamations and denigrations of political opponents, but also of the state and its representatives themselves, are an expression of the fact that the JA is not concerned with a dispute on the matter, but with a general denigration of the democratic system of the Federal Republic of Germany.
