Affiliate marketing is not inherently dangerous. But users often feel insecure when they are lured with high-priced prizes.
Many users come across competitions online. If you follow the instructions of the competition creators, the link will take you to a website, for example in the style of the following page:

Many suspect it's a fake - but what exactly are we seeing here?
This is exactly what affiliate means:
It is a marketing method, more precisely an affiliate program. At this point we cannot promise whether there will actually be a win in the end. But the practice of affiliates is legal.
This means that a website operator - this can be a company that generates leads or a normal 0815 blogger - receives a commission when an Internet user completes a transaction via this particular affiliate link. It does not matter whether this transaction is a purchase of goods or whether the participant agrees to receive advertising from so-called sponsors.

In this case, the partner only actually receives the money when a third party has actually purchased the product via the link provided. (Or takes part in the competition.) If the user follows the link and doesn't buy anything or doesn't take part in the competition - the partner also comes away empty-handed.
A fictional example to illustrate:
The owner of a blog about shampoos thinks to himself “I would like to increase my budget a little, what can I do?” Since many Internet users know and value his blog and have already purchased many of the products that he presented on his blog, he enters into a partner program with the company “Weißkopf”.
He then receives a specific source code that, as a link on his blog, leads to the product in an online shop that he has advertised in a blog article.
If 20 website visitors click on this link and go to this webshop, nothing will come out for “shampoo bloggers”. But if 10 of these visitors actually buy the product, “Shampoo Blogger” receives a commission for each completed transaction for providing the “Weißkopf” company with a customer with purchasing power.
As already mentioned, there are different levels or variants of affiliate marketing. In the area of insurance, for example, it is often enough for users to simply click on the link to make an insurance comparison. Which models still exist is clearly shown on the Affiliate Marketing Tips .
So let's summarize:
Affiliate means “partner program” – I ensure that a user finds my partner’s website and does something specific there and then I receive money in the form of a commission.
