Crizpy: Let's put social media where it's most fun.

Military and defense companies around the world are working on new types of stealth drones. The unmanned combat aircraft are intended to revolutionize air warfare. The USA is considered to be a technological leader. But countries like Russia and China are catching up. Now another player is entering the field that many people probably didn't expect: Germany.

Engineers at Airbus have been secretly working on a high-tech stealth drone for ten years. The company has now published the first images. The LOUT project stands for Low Observable UAV Testbed, i.e. a test platform for a stealth drone.

The aircraft has the shape of a diamond and is 12 meters long with an equally large wingspan and weighs four tons. It is said to have multispectral stealth properties: radar, infrared, visible light. The noise development should also be as low as possible. The drone is in an early stage of development and the first flight is not planned until 2026. It is not expected to be ready for use before 2040.

Why is Airbus now going public with its previously top secret project? Experts suspect that the group wants to recommend itself for the German-French aircraft project Future Combat Air System. The future sixth-generation fighter jet is intended to replace the Eurofighter and Rafale and, networked with other systems, will raise the air combat capability of the two countries to a new level.
