The context and the claim: The state elections in Bavaria are imminent, the Bavarian state parliament will be elected on October 8, 2023. In such hectic times, many statements, populism and, unfortunately, false reports often flood the media and social networks. Now a quote from Hubert Aiwanger, a member of the Free Voters, is circulating: “Every vote for the Greens is like a brutal kick in my face.”
This sentence is said to have been said during an interview with the Bild newspaper. The corresponding subject appeared for the first time in August 2023. Here is the corresponding complete image for comparison purposes:

Checking the sources
To verify such strong statements, a trustworthy source search should always be carried out. In a targeted search using the sentence with the operator “exact match” (quotation marks), this quote does not appear in official media (see here ).
Quotation marks as an operator are a very effective way to track down fake quotes. Enclosing a term or phrase in quotation marks searches for exactly that combination of words. Example: "green trees" will return exact matches for that phrase, rather than pages where "green" and "trees" appear independently.
In order to check the truth of the statement in question, “Every vote for the Greens is like a brutal kick in my face,” we thoroughly searched the Bild-Zeitung website. The image represents a relevant and potential source for such a quote, especially if it purports to come from an interview with this newspaper.
Our research has shown that Hubert Aiwanger actually conducted an interview with Bild. However, the interview in question is titled “If you vote for AfD, you can also vote Green directly” ( archived version here ). In this interview we were unable to find any statements that even remotely resembled the controversial formulation. The quote “Every vote for the Greens is like a brutal kick in my face” was not included in this or any other articles we found on the Bild website.
This suggests that the controversial quote was either taken out of context, misunderstood or possibly fabricated. It is always important to treat such strong claims with caution and carefully review primary sources before distributing them or accepting them as fact.
What is noteworthy is that the phrase is mainly spread on private social media accounts, but there is a lack of any official or credible evidence for it.
Feedback from Aiwanger
For final clarification, we tried to contact Hubert Aiwanger directly. An answer from him is currently pending. As soon as we have a corresponding statement, it will of course be included in the fact check.
Conclusion
So far there is no concrete evidence that Hubert Aiwanger actually said the sentence in question in an interview with the Bild newspaper or in another context. It is important, no matter who is affected in such a picture, to always be careful about the distribution and credibility of such statements, especially during election campaigns.
