The claim
A video is currently being shared in which a customer is upset in Russian that she was sold a medication with a Ukrainian leaflet in a German pharmacy. The accompanying text warns: “ Please be careful in pharmacies, a drug called IMET is being sold as a replacement for ibuprofen for children, which comes from Ukraine ” (sic).
Our conclusion
Due to the current shortage of various medical preparations in Germany, a drug from Berlin-Chemie AG approved here may, as an exception, be sold in packaging and with an instruction leaflet in Ukrainian. Pharmacies are requested to print out the German-language leaflet themselves and give them to customers.

Regardless of whether the warnings shared are a matter of healthy caution from parents or targeted disinformation through Russian propaganda: the fever juice “IMET” with a Ukrainian label is approved in Germany. It is usually only sold here under a different name and, of course, with German-language labeling and a leaflet. Unfortunately, the current shortages of various medications also affect fever juices for children that contain ibuprofen.

Approval of fever juice in Germany
For this reason, the manufacturer Berlin-Chemie received special permission from the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices to bring 90,000 bottles of their products onto the market that were actually intended for Ukraine. This is the fever juice “Eudorlin Ibuprofen 20 mg/ml oral suspension” or with 40 mg/ml. They are sold in Ukraine as “IMET for Children”, where there are currently no shortages of such fever juices. The pharmacies are requested to print out the German-language package leaflet [ 2 or 4% ] themselves and give them to the customers.

This was preceded by a special meeting of the advisory board to assess the supply situation with medicines of the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices on November 30, 2022. This primarily dealt with the shortages of medicines to reduce fever in children with the active ingredients paracetamol and ibuprofen. Despite measures taken, in particular increasing production quantities, demand could not be met during the current cold period.
Berlin-Chemie AG, which also produces the fever juice for the Ukrainian market, applied for a special permit at the end of December, which was granted at the beginning of January. Such a measure is possible if it is necessary to “ensure the supply of medicines to the population” and is regulated according to the MedBVSV ( § 4 , paragraph 1). The BfArM justifies this order as follows:
Eudorlin Ibuprofen 20 mg/ml and 40 mg/ml oral suspension - Permission to place goods in Ukrainian packaging on the market
Excerpt: BfArM measures in the area of delivery bottlenecks
This order is based on Section 4 Paragraph 1 MedBVSV, according to which the BfArM can order in individual cases that a medicinal product with a deviating from the approval Labeling can be placed on the market if this is necessary to ensure the supply of medicinal products. The products listed above are ordered to be placed on the market with a Ukrainian label and package leaflet. The deliveries will be accompanied by product information in German and an information letter to point out the current measures. The permit is limited until March 31, 2023.
Information for pharmacists and users
about its “special contingent of ibuprofen-containing suspensions” via the website of the Drug Commission of German Pharmacists ( ABDA ) and via information letter 2% , 4% was set up for each of the two preparations , from which the “Information on Use for Users” can be downloaded in German. The medicines with Ukrainian packaging do not have a German pharmaceutical central number (PZN), which explains how billing for pharmacies works, the Deutsche Apotheker Zeitung .
Due to the acute demand, we have therefore decided not to apply for a PZN in consultation with the BfArM and the state authority in Berlin. This would have meant that the goods could not be delivered until mid-February at the earliest. However, the product can be dispensed as part of self-medication and can be freely calculated.
DAZ quotes the spokesman for Berlin-Chemie
CONCLUSION: The “IMET” fever juices for children come from the German manufacturer Berlin-Chemie and also have German approval. However, due to delivery bottlenecks, they are delivered with Ukrainian labels. The pharmacy can print out German leaflets and they can also be found on specially set up websites. The supply of fever juices is not at risk in Ukraine.
