The claim
A photo circulating on the Internet that shows Pope Francis kissing Turkish President Erdogan has caused confusion.
Our conclusion
The research revealed that the image is a combination of two different photos taken independently in 2013 and 2014.
The creation of the photomontage “Pope kisses Erdogan”
The photo shows Pope Francis allegedly kissing Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the forehead. The depiction caused considerable irritation on social media.

This scene never happened. In reality it is a photomontage.
Analysis and review
A close analysis of the two original photos reveals the truth behind the montage. The first image showing the Pope comes from a 2014 Familiam article . It shows the Pope kissing a child, not Erdogan.

The second image of Erdogan was published in 2013 and can be found on the website of a Turkish fact-checking service . These two independent images were digitally manipulated to create the controversial image.

Refuting rumors and false reports
The fact that the two original photos have been publicly available for years underscores the importance of careful research and verification. This discovery is an example of how hoaxes and rumors can be debunked with facts and verifiable sources.
Conclusion:
The claim that Pope Francis kissed Erdogan has been refuted by analysis of the original photos. This example shows the importance of verifying information, especially in an age where digital manipulation is easy. In order to prevent the spread of misinformation, it is essential to rely on verified sources and to question information critically.
