The cloud storage Amazon Drive allows customers to store photos, videos or documents in their own cloud. However, the shipping giant has now decided to only make the service available in the form of Amazon Photos in the future.

Anyone who is currently still using cloud storage should definitely keep an eye on the announced deadlines.

No more uploads from February 1st

As Amazon in an FAQ , their cloud storage is closed in 3 steps. If you store documents there, such as pictures etc., you should now back them up separately and also look for a new storage solution.

The first of the 3 phases was initiated in October 2022.

The shutdown plan currently looks like this:

Phase 1 (October 31, 2022, already done): The “Amazon Drive” app has been removed from the app stores or Play stores of Android and iOS devices. Since then, the files can only be managed on a PC.

Phase 2 (01/31/2023): Uploading files to the cloud is no longer possible.

Phase 3 (December 31, 2023): All files stored in the cloud will be deleted and will therefore no longer be available.

However, you don't have to worry about the photos as they are automatically saved in the Amazon Photos service. This application can be downloaded on your smartphone or iPhone or your PC .

Which alternative?

However, anyone who has saved files other than photos in Amazon Drive should download all files from there by the end of this year at the latest to avoid deletion. You should then back up the files either locally or in another cloud.

HERE you can find some cloud storage alternatives.

HERE we have also put together tips on how you can protect your storage space particularly well so that no one else has access to your data.
