Especially during the Christmas season, dubious dealers on Amazon try to cheat buyers out of their money.

For many people, ordering on Amazon is already a given and is associated with a predominantly positive purchasing experience. But there are also fraudulent offers on the popular online platform: if you are asked to contact retailers in advance by email or to process the payment via an external account and not via Amazon, you can assume that you have a dubious offer!

If you're buying Christmas presents online, it's best to order them today. The online giant is a popular address for this. But things don't always go smoothly on Amazon either, especially if you come across fraudulent retailers.

These can usually be recognized by cheap offers. However, there are two key features by which you can recognize dubious merchants: correspondence and external payment processing.

To place an order, contact the dealer first?

You may also come across dubious traders on the platform. You will recognize this when you are asked to contact retailers on their private email address.

These retailers do not want to process the order via the existing Amazon infrastructure, but rather privately via email. If you come across such dealers: stay away!

Not processing the payment via Amazon?

It is fraud if merchants do not want to process payments via Amazon. Buyers are usually contacted by the dealer by email and asked to transfer the invoice amount to a specific account. The fraudulent merchants often give an excuse as to why payment processing via the online platform supposedly does not work.

The reason for the failed payment was “Internal Error 2045 – Processor Rejected”. This email usually appears credible because it is delivered in the usual design. Under no circumstances should you transfer to an external bank account, you will be cheated and will not receive any goods!

How do I recognize dubious offers?

  • The price of the product is usually significantly lower than the usual price.
  • To place an order, you must contact the retailer by email.
  • Apparently you can only order free shipping if you contact us personally.
  • You will receive an email in the usual Amazon design asking you to transfer the invoice amount to an external account. Be careful: this email does not actually come from Amazon, but from criminals.
  • Offers are therefore dubious if the payment is not processed via Amazon.
  • The email, which supposedly comes from Amazon, is full of spelling and grammatical errors.
  • The email address is not the official address, but one that is very similar to it, such as: E.g. amazon-payments-europe@bestellenbestattigung. com.

I have already transferred – what can I do?

In most cases the money is lost. However, you can try the following:

  • Contact your bank and explain that you have been a victim of a scam. It may be possible to have the transfer reversed.
  • Report fraudulent traders.
  • Contact Amazon customer service and report the fraud and your financial loss. Since the payment was not processed through Amazon, Amazon will most likely not refund you. However, you may be able to agree on a goodwill solution.
  • Report it to the police.
