Andrew Tate is a former professional kickboxer who is no longer active and is particularly noticeable through his social media channels. His misogynistic behavior is particularly noticeable, with contempt for women being the focus. Also worth mentioning is his “Hustlers University”. This is a kind of “school” where he sells online courses and people can enroll in the form of a subscription.

This Hustlers University, also known as HU for short, is a fairly large platform through which Andrew Tate exerts a lot of influence. This subscription-based online program is designed to teach people (for $49 per month) how to supposedly make $10,000 per month through various methods such as “copywriting,” cryptocurrency investing, or other activities.

That doesn’t sound too bad, techniques like “copywriting” themselves are rather unproblematic. Copywriting is the art of writing texts for advertising purposes. A copywriter writes texts that serve to sell a product or service or promote a company's brand. These texts can be in various formats, such as ads, landing pages, emails, social media posts, and more.

A good copywriter has good writing skills and understands how to convey a message in an engaging and compelling way. He or she must also understand how to capture the target audience's attention and how to get them to take a desired action, such as purchasing a product or signing up for a newsletter. Copywriting is an important part of marketing and plays an important role in helping companies achieve their goals.

Bridges to misogyny

Misogyny is a behavior that refers to individual feelings or attitudes, but also to cultural and social attitudes and practices that discriminate against women or put them at a disadvantage. Misogyny can manifest itself in many forms, including sexual harassment and violence, discrimination at work or in education, and the portrayal of women in the media as sexual objects or as less valuable than men.

Misogyny is a widespread problem that occurs in many societies and cultures. And for Tate, it's also a form of marketing. According to reports from people who enrolled in Hustlers University, there would be misogynistic rhetoric. This, for example, emerges from a very long article by Buzzfeed (see here ).

But other reports also say that Tate doesn't necessarily impart valuable knowledge, but rather builds a fan base with it. The author of the review article "Hustlers University Review (The Red Pill Truth?)" speaks of feeling like Andrew Tate was all about building a large following and expanding his personal brand and business ventures, instead of actually helping young people who look up to him ( compare ).

Ergo: According to the review, the techniques that Tate wants to teach are both free and better available elsewhere on the internet. Rather, the focus would be on his own person and behavior.

Tate acts out. On social media, on his Hustlers University. In doing so, he reaches out to people who want to be like him. And what is Andrew Tate like? How does it work? Of course he presents himself as financially rich. Shows off expensive cars and luxury in his social media postings. He portrays himself as influential, as someone who has seen through “the system” (what he likes to call the matrix).

In connection with this, he conveys a hatred of women that has already cost him his social media channels on Facebook, Insta and TikTok. Also on Twitter. But it was Musk who ultimately ensured that Andrew Tate was able to become active on Twitter again with his vote to unblock all accounts (see here ).

His statements and representations are also well received by the so-called incels. The Kleine Zeitung wrote about Andrew Tate in August 2022:

In general, it is easier for men to exert “influence” on younger women. Tate even goes so far as to blame women when they are raped. In a video titled “How Tate handles his girls,” he talks about using force to silence partners and ultimately force them to have sex.

The term “incel” is an abbreviation for “involuntarily celibate” and refers to people who involuntarily find themselves in the situation of not having sexual or romantic relationships. The incel movement consists mainly of men and has developed online in recent years. Incels often share their thoughts and feelings in online forums and social media platforms and may display a mixture of pity, anger and envy towards women and people who have successful sexual or romantic relationships. So we also see the connection to Hustlers University as a platform here.

From Tate's statements, it is clear that some incels encourage violence against women and even commit acts of violence based on their feelings of frustration and isolation due to their perceived lack of sexual success. From this point of view, the incel movement can certainly be viewed as dangerous and misogynistic.

Note: Not all people who have difficulty having sexual or romantic relationships automatically belong to the incel group. Conversely, the incel movement is not representative of all people who have difficulty having relationships.

The problem

Tate has an influence on young men. About his PR, about his platforms and about his postings. It promotes misogynistic language and conveys the feeling that violence against women is normal. Violence against women is a serious problem that is widespread in and also in this country. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 1 in 3 women worldwide experience intimate partner or non-partner violence. Violence against women can take many forms, including physical violence, sexual violence, domestic and emotional violence.

The supposed normality of violence against women, which is conveyed through Tate's statements, can now lead to young men practicing this violence against women as "normal" and thus seeing themselves legitimized to use violence to achieve their goals.

So we see that his posts towards Greta Thunberg, even if they can be seen as a supposed defeat for him, are not without danger! Andrew Tate is a huge influence. He knows exactly how to present himself and which groups of people he appeals to. Over the years he has made sure to build up a fan base that even pays for him to be who he is in order to become like him.
