Shopper.a – an Android Trojan that can install apps from unknown sources and also provide fake reviews for apps.

Android Trojan: Kaspersky security researchers have discovered this malware. It bypasses existing security mechanisms and causes a lot of mischief on the smartphone without the user noticing.

Get more downloads and better reviews with Shopper.a

The security experts suspect that Shopper.a, the Android Trojan, aims to increase the download numbers of certain apps. The Trojan is said to be able to hide icons of unwanted installed apps, display advertisements and create shortcuts to websites. In addition, users should be able to log in to apps via Facebook and Google accounts.

The procedure is that Shopper.a gets rights for the Accessibility Service via phishing. The security function Google Play Protect is then deactivated, which ensures that apps that come from sources other than the Google Play Store can be installed.

Abuse of Accessibility Services

This service, also called accessibility, helps people with visual impairments use their smartphone. This allows the Trojan, for example, to emulate physical smartphone buttons on the app screen that no longer work.

“If access is requested by a program whose functionality does not require an AccessibilityService, caution should be exercised,” Zdnet quotes Kaspersky experts as saying.

Shopper.a is currently active primarily in Russia, Brazil and India, but it has now also been found among German-speaking users.
