“I don’t want to be monitored any further.” This is how a video begins, which is currently being distributed on Facebook and YouTube.
In the video, a man says that he heard that there should be a chip in the ID card. He then uses a knife to process the “ document, which says nothing about my nationality anyway ” and “ can also be thrown in the bin ”.
Our resourceful readers will perhaps already realize that we are dealing with someone who apparently harbors Reichsbürger
According to him, you can be located using the chip that is in your ID card, and the chip also transmits data. However, the chip can be destroyed in the microwave.
An interesting video that can no longer be found on the original uploader, but several copies of the video have been re-uploaded

What did he really remove?
What the man removed from his ID card is the so-called RFID chip . RFID refers to a technology for localization and automatic identification using radio waves.
But what sounds so scary and may confirm the gentleman in the video is technically not that easy. RFID chips like the one in the ID card work with NFC (Near Field Communication). As the name suggests, a reader must be very close to the ID card in order to read data, in the case of an ID card, a few centimeters .
Theoretically, reading devices could be produced that increase this range, but hobbyists actually like to try it out. Reason: For example, important items such as the front door key could be provided with an RFID chip, which can then be quickly found using a cell phone with an NFC reader and an app. However, practice shows that at most an increase of up to a few decimeters is possible , an increase as described in another video (“over a kilometer”) is not technically feasible, at least not today.
What is the chip good for?
The chip contains the biometric passport photo, name, date of birth, place of residence and postal code. The purpose of this is to make the ID card forgery-proof, since although it is relatively easy to make the ID card look real, at least superficially (as long as you can only see it for a few seconds in the dark), the chip is biggest hurdle for counterfeiters.
On a voluntary basis , it is also possible to include a fingerprint and a digital signature on the chip.
Can you simply remove the chip in your ID card like that?
No , this is a criminal offense!
Reason : Section 4 of the Passport ID Act states in paragraph 2: “ ID cards are the property of the Federal Republic of Germany. “
And Section 303 (1) of the Criminal Code states: “ Anyone who unlawfully damages or destroys someone else’s property will be punished with a prison sentence of up to two years or a fine.” “
I'm still afraid that it will be secretly read! What now?
But if you still want to protect yourself from secret reading, Google is recommended. RFID blockers on various online sales areas . These are covers for ID cards that are coated on the inside with aluminum and make it impossible to read the RFID chip.
So if you still believe that the RFID chip is used for “total surveillance”, it is much easier to protect yourself from it. And completely legal too.
Interesting aftermath
The original uploader, the one who made the video, has now contacted us and explained why the video was created and what the problem with the re-uploads is.
The creator of the video told us that this video was originally intended as a satire. It should reduce to absurdity the arguments of all those who believe the chip horror stories. According to him, he also noted this in the status report on the topic.
The reason the video disappeared? Well, his personal information was visible in the video. He was able to make them unrecognizable in the photos.
