In 2019, a video was shared on WhatsApp and Facebook that is said to show rioting migrants in Munich.

The video was not a fake, but it neither came from Munich nor is it a current video. Here is the fact check on the video with rioting migrants.

The video is mostly shared on WhatsApp and Facebook. It can be found on both channels with the same descriptions:

Yesterday evening in Munich...
Mama Merkel's children on a city tour. We only knew videos like this from Spain... now they have arrived. I don't feel sorry for Bayern. They must painfully feel their last choice, only then understand and learn it.

Or in short form:

Yesterday evening in Munich...
Mama Merkel's children on a city tour???? But fortunately they are not Nazis

What you see in the video: Several men are walking through a shopping street. They kick over objects and shout loudly. The scenery looks very threatening.

Fact check origin of “Yesterday evening in Munich”

In the video you can find several features that can be used to determine the geographical origin. These features are both visual and acoustic, because the people in the video speak Italian.

If you also perceive the visual information from the video, you come to a very clear conclusion: the video was recorded in Florence and not in Munich.

Age of “Yesterday evening in Munich”

So it's clear: the video was recorded in Florence. The next question is “when”. According to the descriptions, you can read “yesterday” everywhere. However, this information is incorrect.

The video was already known in 2018. The riots were in response to a murder of an African street vendor in Florence. He was shot by an Italian pensioner. The Austrian newspaper “Der Standard” published an article about this ( here )

An Italian pensioner fired a pistol on the street in Florence on Monday. He killed an African street vendor.

RT Deutsch also filmed the riots from a different perspective. This video was published on YouTube on March 8, 2018. You can read about it:

The anger of a group of African migrants boiled over in Florence yesterday. An African street vendor was previously shot dead in the city center. In the evening, dozens of angry protesters, mostly young men, marched through the city center. Many of them randomly destroyed or knocked over things they came across on their way through the city - such as garbage cans, bicycles and flower pots. Together in chorus they shouted “Basta razzismo,” which means “enough with racism.”

The street vendor killed was reportedly a Senegalese migrant. A 65-year-old Italian man was arrested as the main suspect; according to police, he is said to have shot the seller six times. According to police, the suspect left his apartment carrying a gun that he allegedly owned legally. He wrote a farewell letter before his crime. The motive for the alleged murder has not yet been determined.

Conclusion:

The video itself is real, but the description “Yesterday evening in Munich” is incorrect. It should read “Early March 2018 in Florence.”
