Facebook, the parent company of WhatsApp, recently announced that a potential security vulnerability had emerged in WhatsApp.
Now you should definitely update WhatsApp.

The WhatsApp security hole: The danger arises from sending a special file, in this case an MP4 video file. This procedure is a DoS attack (DoS = Denial of Service).

Said video file is manipulated and triggers a “buffer overflow” on the recipient’s device. In the event of such an overflow, the device is overloaded and no longer works properly, which means that security mechanisms no longer work. This makes it possible for attackers to access the recipient's smartphone, control it or even turn it off completely.
