We particularly like to remember this: An antenna that receives 100 TV channels completely free of charge and legally, plus in HD format? We had to test this!

We have already reported on fake advertising about that antenna. A pseudo-reputable site claimed that the product had already been shown on all TV channels, even in an investor show.

The description of the technology of this antenna is also impressive:

“The secret behind this is a law that no cable company in the world wants you to know. It states that every cable company must broadcast an over-the-air signal in addition to the normal signal. In order not to break the law, the cable companies distribute this signal at a low frequency - so almost no antennas could receive the stations. Until now…"

Looking for law

So there is a law.
Aha. One that seems to apply worldwide. For all cable companies. Around the world. But the cable companies, these rascals, keep the law secret. So that no one can just watch cable TV for free. But that wasn't technically possible anyway, since no antenna could receive this signal. Until now. At least they promise. But they didn't say which global law it was. Nor why this law even exists. But if it's something secret, it definitely has something to do with the military!

Soldiers need daily soaps!

We find what we are looking for on the website of a dealer where you can buy this antenna: “Military technology” was used to develop the antenna.
Okay, “Military technology always sounds good. Just like “NASA technology”. That sounds like something really big. And if you can suddenly receive all transmitters with an antenna made from military technology, then that probably means that these lower frequencies are actually only for the military. So that you can also watch “Good Times, Bad Times” in Afghanistan. Or “Lindenstrasse” during tank exercises. Because nothing is more important to the military worldwide than being able to receive TV broadcasts!

Convinced! We order!

We have no idea about this law or the logic behind it, but whatever. We want to see everything! Everything! Without paying anything! In HD! So we don't hesitate and order such a miracle part from a dealer.

After about two weeks we received the long-awaited package from England. The miracle cure. Our free ticket to TV heaven. The million-dollar sensation, for just a paltry 35.74 euros, which we were also able to pay via PayPal.

The practical test

The package contains a four-page leaflet in German and English that explains what to do: stick the inconspicuous, wobbly black disc on a window or wall, plug the cable into the TV, search for channels.
Easy peasy.
Installation completed in 3 minutes, now you can get started! We are following the channel search with excitement…….1……….2……….3……….4……….

Yes. That was it. Four channels. Four! Really?
But we still have three other walls left, maybe we just need to orient them differently?
No, it wasn't that either. We found two, one and zero channels. But maybe at least these four channels are the ultimate viewing experience?

Did you notice our cover photo above? Do you see how crystal clear this beautiful station noise is? Yes. That's what happened to us too. These four channels had roughly the same quality, only interrupted by occasional sounds and images from the channels. Which, by the way, were all public broadcasters, and there were no private broadcasters. We would probably receive more channels with a structure made of paper clips and aluminum foil. Where is MacGyver when you need him?

What doesn't exist doesn't work.

Maybe our test location was just inconvenient?
This question is justified, but we couldn't receive many more channels in other places either. So what did we actually buy? The answer is as simple as it is unspectacular: technically it is a passive DVB-T2 antenna. “Passive” means that it does not require its own power source. There is also one important thing missing from the whole game: a DVB-T receiver!

Modern televisions already have such receivers built in, but our inexpensive test TV doesn't have any of these bells and whistles. In addition, you will only be able to receive the usual public channels if you are lucky, because the private channels have also been broadcasting there largely in encrypted form for some time.

Besides, there is still this law. Or rather: it doesn't exist. At least not in Germany, and we wanted to watch the channels there. the reception of channels bad in England and the USA

Conclusion

You can save your money. The antenna does no more than a standard DVB-T2 antenna, and you also need a receiver to be able to receive programs properly. And these programs are no longer available for free.

In any case, we now have an overpriced wall decoration.
