Accordingly, unknown people are calling people in Seestadt and pretending to be employees of the Weser-Elbe-Sparkasse (Wespa). The impression that they are actually bank advisors is reinforced by the fact that the callers answer with the institute's phone number, the Bremerhaven telephone number 48000. However, this is a technical trick.

The callers then ask the alleged victims about a letter from the savings bank that was supposedly sent some time ago.

In the cases that have become known, the callers knew various personal details of the alleged victims, so that this also gives the impression that they are dealing with real advisors. During the further conversation, the suspected perpetrators then ask for the card number of the debit card, possibly in order to use the number for later crimes.

According to the current state of knowledge, the people from Bremerhaven who were called have so far behaved prudently and have not provided any further data. However, it cannot be ruled out that the suspected fraudsters will make further attempts on people in the city. In this context, the Weser-Elbe-Sparkasse expressly points out that such calls asking for personal data do not come from its employees and warns - like the police - not to respond to the conversations and provide data such as card numbers , PIN and TAN.

Your police tips:

  • Always be suspicious of calls (or emails) like this! Banks and savings banks usually communicate via letters or via the mailbox with e-banking.
  • Don't be fooled by the number on the display - it's easy for fraudsters to forge.
  • Never share personal information or information about your bank details with strangers.
  • Do not talk to strangers about bank assets, cash or other valuables.
  • Hang up and call the police (emergency number: 110)!
