“the BackSeat” knows all occupants and sounds an alarm when they get out

The new smartphone app “ the BackSeat ” is intended to prevent children who are carelessly left behind in a hot car from suffering serious damage or even dying in the summer. The application keeps track of who is traveling in the vehicle and immediately alerts contacts if a child is forgotten when getting out.

Notification live

The app alerts you as soon as the driver starts the vehicle rolling and the car's speed increases to over 20 miles per hour. the BackSeat initially asks whether there are one or more children in the car. The app then sets a reminder alarm that sounds three seconds after the vehicle comes to a standstill. If the user ignores the alarm, a loud tone sounds and notifications are repeatedly displayed on the mobile phone.

If the alarm is not stopped, i.e. turned off, the app notifies three of the user's contacts, which must be stored in the application. This is to prevent distracted or stressed parents from forgetting that there are children in the back seat who may have fallen asleep.

“In the United States alone, an average of 37 babies per year have died in hot cars over the past 20 years. Doctors, lawyers, nurses, business managers, grandparents, mothers, fathers and nannies have left a small child in a car and he or she died. This issue has reached all demographics with no end in sight,”

write the developers.

Normal forgetfulness

The app was created after developer Erin J. O'Conne learned of two children who had been left unnoticed in the car in the blazing heat and died as a result of overheating.

“Even the most attentive and loving parents, grandparents or caretakers can inadvertently fall prey to the distractions of society or fall into a routine and forget things. We forget things. We are human beings",

the developers assert. the BackSeat is available free for Apple and Android devices.
