The claim

A video showing several people attacking an ambulance with projectiles was recorded in Germany.

Our conclusion

That's not true, because the video was from 2019 and was made in Hong Kong. It shows riots in Hong Kong.

The video itself makes it difficult to determine his origins and age. It is a 17 second long video. The many voices and shouts that you hear in the 17 seconds make it impossible to hear any language. It's hard to tell where this video comes from, you just see several people attacking the ambulance. Stones and other objects end up inside the vehicle whose rear doors are open.

This video also poses problems because it is difficult to identify: It is often suggested on Facebook that it is about migrants in Germany attacking an ambulance. In this respect, it is important to know where this video comes from and what exactly can be seen there.

Fact check Attack on ambulance

___STEADY_PAYWALL___

  • Is this video of the ambulance from Germany? No.
  • Is this video from Europe? No.
  • The video is from 2019 in Hong Kong and can be seen in the context of the unrest in Hong Kong ( see here ).

What we see there: According to media reports, protesters said that an injured person refused to use an ambulance because two police officers were in the building. The protesters surrounded the vehicle and threw bricks and glass bottles into the vehicle. According to media reports, there is also talk of Molotov cocktails.

The Hong Kong Free Press published this video as part of its article “Hong Kong police enter PolyU campus following day-long battle, as officers fire live warning shots nearby” on November 18, 2019 ( see here ).

The video of the ambulance itself can be found in the article, but it was also uploaded to the Hong Kong Free Press YouTube channel. It has a length of 57 seconds. The version often shown on social media is only 17 seconds long and only shows part of the original video.

Shortened version

Why cut so much? This can have two reasons. The shortened version only shows the attack on the ambulance from close up, not the view from above. These 17 seconds are full of drama.

On the other hand, it is difficult to determine the origin from the 17-second excerpt and therefore the short video is very suitable for arousing speculation.
