Various screenshots are intended to prove that Baerbock and Habeck are ignoring Corona measures. But is that so?

“Another Baerbock fake!” writes colleague Beate in the editorial group. Bored, I move my mouse across the table. The cursor slowly moves towards your posting.

“What is it this time?” I ask myself. Yes, since it became clear that Annalena Baerbock is the Green Party's candidate for chancellor, there has been a massive increase in false reports about the politician.

Yesterday there was a fake posting in which it was assumed that she was calling for a ban on pets (see here ). Then this morning I had to browse porn sites because a naked picture of her supposedly appeared ( here ). Of course the picture is not of her, but of a person who looks like her.

I yawn. My coffee is empty and I don't feel like making new coffee. I look at the angry posting that talks about “eco-fascists” and “tax animals”. It begins with the words:

And once again preaching water, but drinking the champagne from full buckets. Greens without any distance, without protective masks and in complete disregard of any contact rules.

Bored and partly disgusted by the great energy needed to wantonly drag a politician through the mud, I look at the research results. Yes, they are clear. The allegations that the Green Party leadership appeared in photos after the announcement of Baerbock's candidacy for chancellor and without protective measures are actually a fake. These are these photos:

Fact check Baerbock photos and the context

Let's look at the origin of the photos. These photos show through an overlay that they come from WELT. In fact, we can relate to this scene. These are still images from a video of WELT's reporting on Annalena Baerbock's candidacy for chancellor.

This video was broadcast on April 19, 2021 and is still available on the welt.de website ( see here ). But what is sold as current footage on social media using the still images from the video is of course archive material that WELT used to illustrate the video. Small note: WELT has absolutely nothing to do with this fake, but the excerpts in the form of screenshots from the video were subsequently misinterpreted by third parties.

But when was this archive material recorded? The dpa fact checkers have already researched exactly this and found out when the articles were recorded.

The result: The recordings are mostly from 2019. Only an overlay from a Fridays for Future demo in Hamburg is from February 21, 2020. So all the material is from the time before the first Corona regulations in Germany.

The exact analysis of these images can be found in the dpa fact check entitled “Baerbock photos come from before the pandemic rules” here .

And now?

I lean back in my chair and close my eyes. I ask myself why such false reports are necessary in order to prevent a Green Chancellor. What fear or anger does some people have to have to constantly spread false news?

For us as fact checkers it’s also a really stupid situation. Because the moment we uncover false reports that affect a political party, we are positioned in that direction. This is of course complete nonsense, but it will happen again with this article.

A hoax is a hoax, and I personally don't care who is affected. I have already corrected false reports about Björn Höcke ( see here or here ), but no one seems to have really noticed that. Besides, no one said that I was an AfD voter or a Nazi.

Am I “left” because I expose fakes about Greens? No. I'm not right-wing because I expose fakes about the AfD? Certainly not. But one thing is me: I'm just annoyed by such accusations. Just annoyed.
