In one case, a 66-year-old suspected the fraud in good time, so alert police officers arrested the person collecting the goods.

Traffic accident as an excuse

In all cases, the fraudsters posed as a daughter or daughter-in-law who had caused a serious traffic accident. A supposed police officer or public prosecutor backed up the story by stating that the in-law/daughter had to pay tens of thousands of euros in bail to avoid imprisonment.

The handover

In one case, a person collecting money came to a senior citizen living in Stuttgart-Sonnenberg and accepted cash, coins and jewelry. The person who picked up the car was a woman who was around 35 years old and around 165 centimeters tall with a corpulent build. She was wearing a light-colored patterned T-shirt and light-colored pants.

A 64-year-old was ordered to be handed over to the district court in Bad Cannstatt. There, around 2:10 p.m., he handed the money over to a man who was 20 to 25 years old and 175 centimeters tall. He is said to have a slim build, dark, short hair and was wearing dark casual clothing.

A 66-year-old man living in Karlsruhe was supposed to go to the Stuttgart district court to hand over a gold bar and several tens of thousands of euros in cash. The fraud was discovered when his real daughter contacted him. He then called the police, who arrested the 24-year-old collector with Polish nationality on site. At the request of the public prosecutor, he will be brought before a judge on Wednesday (August 17, 2022).

Report observations to the police
