Fraudsters use a fraudulent SMS to try to get access to online banking. In this SMS they pretend to be a bank's customer service team.

To be precise, the SMS claims to have been sent by Easybank customer service. The reason is that online banking is blocked. But be careful, this is a made-up claim:

Easybank customer service: Your online banking access has been blocked to protect your account from misuse, please check your account: [Link]

To be clear: This short message does not come from Easybank. Access to online banking was also not blocked. This is a typical lure for phishing.

The process

The short message refers to a website that is supposedly the login for online banking. However, the linked website is a fake that the Easybank login .

The input fields on the fake website intercept all entries made and transmit them to fraudsters. The entries can therefore be misused by third parties. We therefore warn: Please do not believe the SMS and do not leave any truthful entries on the fake website.

What exactly is phishing?

The term always comes up when it comes to a specific form of online fraud. Banking is often affected, but other online platforms are also affected. Both large corporations and private individuals fall victim to phishing attacks.

The term 'phishing' is borrowed from the English word 'fishing' - and describes an activity that cybercriminals carry out. They fish out user data. The device does not necessarily have to be infected with a virus, which is why users are also named as victims when reporting on phishing attacks. A phishing attempt can occur even if the computer is virus-free.

Phishing works in different ways. Fake websites, emails that appear to come from a well-known person or institution, such as banking, and SMS can be used for a phishing attack. Fraudsters try to make the original website, the cover letter from a friend or an institute, or the said SMS look as similar as possible to the original.
