Misinformation in the digital world

A click here, a share there and an 'alternative facts' story starts making the rounds. False claims, fake news and general nonsense often spread faster than wildfire in the digital landscape. But why does it take an entire firefighting team to smother the flames of disinformation?

The appeal of the simple and emotional

It is human nature to look for easy answers, especially when they confirm one's fears and prejudices. Fake news is like tailored suits – it fits our existing beliefs perfectly and is therefore difficult to get rid of.

The complexity of truth

However, the truth is often more complicated. To combat misinformation, we have to go into the information jungle and do research. It is important to acquire in-depth specialist knowledge, research and explain complex issues. This takes a lot of time and requires a lot of energy.

The resistance to the truth

And even if we have found the truth, the next challenge awaits us: we have to convince people. Studies show that once opinions have been established, they are very difficult to change. Once fake news becomes anchored in people's minds, they develop an astonishing resistance to facts.

A beacon of truth in the darkness of disinformation

But there is hope. We at Mimikama and many other committed people and organizations have made it our mission to uncover and combat disinformation. We work tirelessly to debunk misinformation and promote an informed and critical-thinking society.

Conclusion: A fight that is worth it

Yes, that's true: it takes a lot more energy to refute a hoax than to produce it. But we must not forget that truth is an invaluable asset that must be protected. In a world where information and misinformation are just a click away, we all have a responsibility to preserve and protect the truth.

This is not an easy fight. But it's a fight worth it. Because only through truth can we be certain that our society, our democracy and our future rest on a solid foundation. If we are committed, patient and persistent in checking the facts, we can help create a world resilient to disinformation.
