There are tons of fake competitions on Facebook at the moment. Well-known brands or companies are used as bait.
We received inquiries about a Facebook page called Edeka competition, which promises a weekend for the whole family at Disneyland Paris:

Win a trip with the whole family. Take part for free –> Link
The Facebook presence alone doesn't seem very serious. And the fact that you have to enter your data via a link on an external input mask makes you suspicious:

We are already familiar with this input mask from many other fake competitions. In addition, not a single word is said on this website about Edeka giving away this trip, but from Lead Spot Media GmbH , which has no business relationship with Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, nor Edeka.
The alleged Edeka competition with the travel prize is just a bait to attract users so that they leave their data.
What happens to the data?
If you take part in the supposed competition, the data ends up with a so-called “lead generator”. The organizer points out the following:
Yes, I agree that the companies listed on the sponsor list will inform me by telephone, post or email about offers from their respective business area. I also agree that the competition data will be passed on to the sponsors and used by them for this purpose. …
This means that the participant can “look forward” to a lot of advertising that will come their way as the process progresses.
On the Lead Spot website you can read the following:
We at Lead Spot Media are specialists in successful lead generation! With our exclusive lead generation projects and email campaigns, you can reach your (potential) customers directly and address them specifically to your target group. The creativity and know-how of our team is your guarantee for innovative and successful online marketing campaigns.
What exactly does lead generation mean?
In marketing terms, a “lead” is a customer record. An agency that generates leads strives to build as many data sets as possible. The valuable data sets are those that are quite complete and extensive. Name, address, telephone number, mobile number and email address are quite interesting.
When age, education and interests are added, the “lead” becomes even more valuable. And if you then reveal your consumer behavior in a questionnaire, the lead generation agency laughs and is happy about a very valuable data set.
NOTE!
Hardly anyone has anything to give away online! Especially in the case of this competition, data traders are behind it, so you pay with your personal data.
You can take part, but in the end you don't have to be surprised that your data is sold and you receive a deluge of advertising - but no trip to Disneyland.
