Scammers call from this number. Please don't pick up! And if you do, hang up immediately!

These scammers pose as Microsoft employees and claim over the phone that the user's computer is infected with viruses. Then they offer software over the phone or over the Internet that supposedly helps clean the device. Anyone who installs this supposed remote maintenance software is actually setting up a Trojan that allows fraudsters to access the device and spy out data.

We are currently receiving more and more reports from people who have received a call. The scammers are likely to call randomly. Anyone can be affected!

How are these fraudulent Microsoft calls and services different from authentic Microsoft support offers?
  • Under no circumstances will Microsoft make unsolicited phone calls offering to repair a defective device. Even for official support requests, assistance is almost exclusively provided via email.
  • Microsoft does not send unsolicited emails or request personal or financial information via phone calls.
  • If the caller claims to be an employee of the Microsoft lottery, then this is not true: there is no Microsoft lottery.
  • Microsoft never requires any upfront payment.
  • Microsoft never actively asks for credit card information to verify the authenticity of Office or Windows.
  • Microsoft does not contact users without asking to inform them about new security updates. Contact with Microsoft Support occurs exclusively at the initiative of the user, never the other way around.

What can I do as a person affected?

End such telephone conversations as quickly as possible and do not purchase or install any third-party software on your device . Ask the caller if there are any charges for the call or service. If so, end the call immediately. Never allow remote maintenance access to your device during such a conversation. If you have already installed software at the caller's insistence or through instructions on the Internet, disconnect the device from the network as soon as possible. Take care of removing the installed software and changing your passwords, specifically for your online banking account, from a secure device.

Microsoft takes this problem very seriously and is taking action against the perpetrators of these scams with its own investigators and in close cooperation with police authorities worldwide. We also ask those affected to go to the police and report the attempted fraud there.

We would also like to ask you to report your case on our website so that we can take even more targeted action against these fraudsters.
