New scam smishing on the rise
There has been an increasing number of cases of so-called “smishing” reported to the police recently. This is a creation of the English terms “ SMS ” (short message service) and “ phishing ” (theft of access data via fake messages or emails).
With the new scam, those affected receive an SMS that supposedly comes from their credit institution. If you then click on the link embedded in the messages, you will usually be asked to activate pushTAN and enter bank details .
the perpetrators' access to your own account without even noticing .
That's why the police advise:
- Do not click on links or pretend callback numbers, even if your bank appears to be shown as the sender!
- Do not download data from unknown sources!
- If in doubt, contact your credit institution using the usual channels/telephone numbers that you know to be safe to question the authenticity of a message!
- Contact your police!
