An apartment in the city center of Waldkirch that looks decent from the photos was offered for a relatively reasonable price. Since the alleged landlady is currently abroad, the inspection and handover of the apartment keys should take place in a somewhat unusual way.

Under the pretext that both the tenant and the landlady were on the safe side, which was well contrived with small talk for plausible reasons, the transaction was offered via a reputable B&B internet portal. The young tenant was supposed to register on the portal there and transfer the first rent and a deposit - ostensibly in trust - to the world-famous housing portal. She would then receive the apartment key.

However, the young woman was rightly suspicious and questioned this.

A police investigation promptly brought hair-raising results: The pictures of the apartment shown certainly do not come from the apartment that was supposedly for rent and obviously not from an apartment in Germany; The specified rental address does exist, but the apartment located there is owned by the city and is rented out. The link to the renovated Internet marketplace that was “kindly” sent by the “landlord,” who was now exposed as a fraud, was fake and bank details were stored on the wrong page that led to a dubious account abroad. Fortunately, the young woman was not harmed. The investigation into the current case is ongoing.

The police strongly advise against such supposedly quick bargains.

If trust-inspiring names from large companies are brought into play when looking for an apartment, contact should only be made by entering the internet link yourself and you should never click on the links provided. Nowadays, it only takes a few minutes to fake such sites.
