In the last 24 hours, nine cases have been reported to the Rostock police. The perpetrators always proceeded in the same way: the victims received an SMS in the name of the Sparkasse and were asked to update their pushTAN registration on the same day. In doing so, the brazen scammers obviously put pressure on the victims and they clicked on the link. This link then led to a fraudulent website and the injured parties were asked to enter data and a TAN.

In all cases, those affected were initially debited 981.00 euros. Due to further transactions, the total damage determined so far amounts to tens of thousands of euros.

The criminal police investigators assume that the perpetrators could also send fraudulent emails in connection with TAN procedures and further appeal for caution:

  • Never give out TANs or personal data!
  • Check the spelling (upper and lower case) as well as the form of expression in the SMS or email and under no circumstances click on the link displayed!
  • If you are unsure, always make sure who you are dealing with and call your bank back using the number you know!
