Fraudsters shock people with false information

Unknown fraudsters tried to scam a resident of Witzenhausen using the “shock call” scam on Thursday morning.

At around 10:40 a.m., the unknown fraudsters contacted a 65-year-old woman. The caller pretended to be the 65-year-old's daughter in a tearful voice and explained that she had caused an accident with three deaths. She is currently with the police and the public prosecutor's office will only release her with a bail of 20,000 euros.

Shortly afterwards, another woman took over the phone and began to compare the victim's daughter's data with her. When the telephone scammer mentioned the deposit again, the 65-year-old's daughter-in-law happened to become aware of their conversation and took over the further conversation. The fraudsters then ultimately refrained from making any further demands and ended the conversation.

Tips:

  • Always be suspicious, ask someone you trust; also with the police.
  • Do not reveal details about your family and financial circumstances.
  • Don't let yourself be pushed or put under pressure. Take the time to verify the caller's information.
  • In this context, it should be noted that neither the police nor the public prosecutor's office calls parents/relatives in the event of an accident and demands large sums of money for a deposit. – This is a scam.

This scam is not new. Criminals repeatedly exploit the concern for relatives in order to profit from it. We have already reported on this several times: shock calls
