We and the police continually clarify the many different scams used by fraudsters or tricksters and provide valuable information that will prevent you from becoming a victim of such a crime.

But what actually happens to those who actually became victims or who were on the verge of falling for the tricksters or fraudsters?

Health consequences!

First of all, there is of course the financial loss of the victim, who may lose all of their assets. Any health consequences of course always depend on the person affected. They range from “I was lucky” or “Thank God I didn’t fall for that” to outright trauma with all the effects you can imagine. When the perpetrators think they have an alleged victim on the hook, they usually put constant pressure on them, not just on the day of the crime, with constant calls or repeated calls at short intervals.

In addition, what a 70-year-old lady from the eastern district is currently experiencing can happen.

The lady had to deal with an attempted telephone scam in September. At that time it was about 30,000 euros. For a long time, the injured party assumed that she was talking to her niece on the phone and was quite willing to help her. Only thanks to fortunate circumstances did the lady not lose any money. Since then, she has been receiving similar phone calls all the time, and this is a typical behavior of these scammers.

True to the motto “if you've bitten once, you'll react again,” the scammers then try again. The alleged phone numbers displayed change like the stories.

The woman has been cautious since the bad experience in September, so there have been no payments so far.

Against this background, it is very important for the police to continually report on the actions of these criminals and to explain the scams and phenomena. Knowledge of this and a healthy distrust as well as following a few basic rules protect you from financial loss, possibly from damage to your health and from becoming a victim of a crime!

So here’s the top principle again:

Particular caution is required when personal information, money or valuables are involved on the phone. Never, under absolutely no circumstances, hand over money to strangers or transfer it to completely unknown accounts, possibly even foreign accounts. Also don't buy vouchers and send the codes. Do not give out any personal information at all over the phone! Neither your age, marital status, financial institution, existing cash or assets are anyone's business on the phone!
