Already on January 8, 2020, an elderly lady became a victim of fake police officers. The fraudsters stole a five-figure sum of cash.
In most cases, the “fake police officers” target senior citizens as victims. Same in this case. An unknown perpetrator, posing as a police officer, asked his fraud victim over the phone to get her savings and give them the fake numbers. The lady did as she was told. The fake police officer then claimed that some of the notes were counterfeit money. The senior citizen was supposed to put her savings in a bag and a colleague would pick it up from her in the next few minutes.

The notes would then be checked at the station. You can pick them up again the following day. A short time later, a strange man actually rang the lady's doorbell and took the cash.
It was only afterwards that the woman realized that she had been dealing with fraudsters. She consequently files a report with the real police. There she described the perpetrator to whom she handed the money at her front door as follows:
- – around 50 – 60 years old
- – approximately 1.65 m tall
- – wearing a cognac brown leather jacket and a gray cap
- – Wearers of glasses
If you have seen the perpetrator in the Paradiesstrasse area in Düren or can provide information about the incident described, please contact the Düren police control center on 02421 949 6425.
