Riders who book this trip are then contacted on WhatsApp and lured to a fraudulent payment platform. Do not transfer any money in advance or provide any payment details. Our cooperation partner Watchlist Internet warns and shows how you can expose fraudulent drivers!
How does the scam work?
Paul is looking for a trip from Vienna to Graz on BlaBlaCar. He finds one and books the ride with Scott. Scott gets in touch with him straight away to clarify details about the trip. They discuss the time and place of departure on WhatsApp. Scott then sends Paul a link for payment. Paul clicks on this and lands on a BlaBlaCar payment platform. There he should enter his credit card details and pay for the trip in advance.
Attention: This payment platform is fraudulent! Criminals are trying to get your credit card details with this fake BlaBlaCar website.
Since the website looks deceptively real, the fraud is not immediately apparent to many people. The internet address of the fraudulent website is also the same as the real one. In this case, the fraudulent address was “blablacar-de.3ds-paymentz.online/order97743171”. Below is the chat history with a fraudulent driver:

The fake payment platform
Fraudulent driver Scott lures Paul to a payment platform that looks like it belongs to BlaBlaCar. The trip has already been set up there and a transfer of one euro is planned. Scott claims this amount is for the “blablacar commission.”
But Paul was lucky. He immediately recognized the fraud and paid nothing. But what would have happened if he had transferred?
We assume that this fake payment platform is a phishing site. If Paul had entered his credit card details, they would have ended up directly with the criminals. We further assume that the criminals make transfers and get victims to release them. Since there was also a chat function on BlaBlaCar's supposed payment platform, we assume that fake support employees put pressure on victims and get them to approve further payments.
How to recognize fraudsters on BlaBlaCar
- Fraudulent drivers send you a link
- Scammers want you to pay in advance, e.g. B. via “Send money to friends” from PayPal, by credit card or on a supposed payment platform from BlaBlaCar
- The profile is new and has no or little meaningful reviews. Read how to spot fake reviews .
- Fraudsters offer a lot of trips, usually there and back several times a day
- BlaBlaCar warns about fraud on its website and gives tips for safe use
Tip: It's best to pay in cash in the car!
I have entered my credit card details – what now?
- Watch out for unjustified debits.
- Contact your credit card company and explain that criminals have your information. It probably makes sense to have the card blocked.
- Report it to the police.
- Report the fraudulent profile to BlaBlaCar.
- Criminals have your phone number. This may be used for further fraud. Beware of unknown or strange calls!
