On May 31, 2022, con artists again tried to trick senior citizens throughout the Vorpommern-Rügen district. They were unsuccessful. In one case, however, it was close. At least 18 people were called between 10:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. It was always suggested to them that a close relative, often the daughter , had caused a fatal traffic accident and was now in prison.
only leave prison paying bail The previously unknown perpetrators demanded sums of up to 100,000 euros .
Fortunately, everyone called recognized this scam, so no money was paid in any of the reported cases. Six seniors from Stralsund, four from Grimmen and the surrounding area, three each from the island of Rügen and near Barth and one senior from Bad Sülze were called. The perpetrators were almost successful with her.
The 87-year-old German woman received a call on her landline phone at around 11:30 a.m. A man came forward and said that the 87-year-old's daughter had caused a traffic accident in which three children and their mother were killed.
The daughter is now imprisoned and can be bought out for a bail payment of 35,000 euros. The injured party had a taxi take her to her financial institution in Ribnitz-Damgarten and withdrew the requested 35,000 euros from her account. When she was on the way back to Bad Sülze by taxi, the bank employee called the senior citizen's daughter and asked why she was withdrawing so much cash. The daughter immediately made her way to her mother and picked her up from the financial institution when she returned. It turned out to be an attempted scam. There was no handover of money. Instead, mother and daughter called the police and filed a criminal complaint.

As it became known on June 1st, 2022 around 11:00 a.m., the fraudsters were successful with a senior citizen in Stralsund. At around 12:45 p.m., a 93-year-old German woman received a call from a lady who introduced herself as a Berlin police officer. She claimed that the senior citizen's daughter had caused a traffic accident and that the public prosecutor would decide what to do next. Since the senior citizen actually has a daughter who lives in Berlin, she assumed that everything was true. At around 1:30 p.m., the 93-year-old received another call from the supposed public prosecutor. The man asked for a deposit of 20,000 euros. In the end it was agreed to hand over 14,000 euros. The elderly woman took the money from the bank and handed it over to an unknown female person at the front door. Only later did the 93-year-old realize that she was a victim of fraud and called the correct police to file a criminal complaint.
It was also announced today that an 83-year-old German from near Stralsund fell victim to the same scam. She also received a call yesterday and was told that her niece had caused a traffic accident in which a cyclist had died. In order to avert her niece's alleged imprisonment, she handed over 9,000 euros in cash to an unknown person who posed as the secretary of the responsible public prosecutor. It was not until June 1st, 2022 that the senior citizen contacted the police and filed a criminal complaint.
