Fraudsters have apparently noticed that dubious email senders make people suspicious. Now they are getting bolder: they are pretending that the email comes from the police.

Aaachen police warning about this scam:

“At the beginning of the week, a woman from Aalen received a request via email to pay around 340 euros into an account, the details of which could be found in the attachment to the email. A fake email address was given as the return address, which gave the impression that it came from the Aalen police station. The woman reacted completely correctly: she didn't open the email attachment and filed a report. In this context, the police expressly point out that the police never send any demands by email.”

Fake senders are increasing

We have observed that in the last few months emails have been appearing more often with senders that apparently come from authorities or ministries, for example the Ministry of Finance or the Tax Administration .

In general, it can be said that authorities and ministries do not send payment requests or even promises of payment by email! Under no circumstances should you respond to demands in such emails, let alone open any email attachments!
