An unknown woman initially contacted the 32-year-old via an online dating platform. During the exchange of messages, the stranger promoted a crypto site and finally convinced the man to register there.

Man invests four-figure amount

As a result, he invested money amounting to a low four-digit amount over a longer period of time. After the 32-year-old allegedly made 45,000 euros in sales with this investment, he demanded that the amount be paid out. The fraudsters then informed him that various taxes would have to be paid beforehand because the company's headquarters were in China. In good faith that he had “big money,” the young man made further payments totaling several thousand euros to the fraudsters’ account.

The police advise caution

Be alert if strangers contact you via social media or other online platforms.

In general, you should not transfer money to people you have never met personally or allow yourself to be persuaded to do financial transactions. There are a lot of scammers on the Internet in particular who want to make a lot of money off the trust of their fellow human beings. So always be suspicious of incredible offers.
