The Osnabrück police warn the city and district of Osnabrück about the scam “Found? golden ring”.
For about two weeks now, citizens in the district and probably also in the city of Osnabrück have been falling victim to a scam.
The procedure
A perpetrator speaks to the mostly older victims (60+), shows them a “ golden ring ” that he supposedly just found and asks whether the victim might have lost it.
The man, posing as a penniless Pole, then hands the ring over to his victim and then willingly receives a 5 to 10 euro (or more) “finder’s fee” in order to be able to buy something to eat.

Since these rings have a 585 engraving or stamp on the inside, the victims naturally believe that they have received a gold ring that - assuming it is handed in to the lost property office - will bring in enough finder's fees to emerge from the matter unscathed.
However, the material of the rings is low-quality, gold-colored sheet metal. The ring was not lost, but rather dropped by the supposedly penniless perpetrator.
