Apparently on behalf of the police, an 86-year-old wanted to get money from the bank on Friday. But it wasn't the police who ordered her a taxi, but a shock caller. He manipulated the woman with the well-known lie: “Your son caused a serious accident. You have to pay a deposit.”

Allegedly the son killed a child and seriously injured the mother and a second child in the traffic accident.

That was the scammer's message in short. A second male perpetrator stammered “Mama, Mama” into the receiver in a crying voice, then the alleged inspector took over again. As in similar cases in the district, here too the perpetrator ordered a taxi to transport money. The withdrawal initially failed at the first bank: such a large sum had to be announced in advance, the employees there explained to her.

The taxi took her back home, where the perpetrator was waiting on the phone.

Now the fake police officer sent her to a bank in Dortmund. This time too, the fraudster ordered the taxi. The attentive driver became suspicious during the journey and went on the offensive: “Did your grandson call you?” However, the elderly woman had promised the fraudster not to tell anyone anything. She also kept this promise in the taxi. There were problems again at the bank counter in Dortmund. The dedicated taxi driver came after and made her customer break the silence. She excitedly talked about her son's serious accident and the call from the police. The bank informed the real police and the real son. In any case, he didn't cause an accident and brought his mother home safely.

The police continue to warn against such shock calls, which play badly on people's fears.

Such bail payments are not at all common in Germany - especially not in cash. The police do not order taxis and do not oblige those affected to maintain strict secrecy.

The simplest advice is: hang up!

If you want to know exactly, you should take a few deep breaths and call the real son/daughter on the familiar phone number. Alternatively, victims could contact acquaintances, friends or relatives. This is exactly what is of enormous importance for the preventive work of the police.

The police appeal to them:

“Keep bringing up these fraud attempts!” If you know about the tricks, no shock call can shock you. A big compliment goes to the taxi driver.
