The claim

US President Joe Biden has said – as White House insiders report – regarding protests in Germany: “They think they’re mad now, wait until we’re done stealing their industry. God, I hate these bratwurst eating bastards.”

Our conclusion

The alleged quote is fictitious and represents satire. It comes from a US journalist who often publishes similar articles. He also indicated in his post that it was satire.

A sentence is currently spreading on the Internet that supposedly comes from US President Joe Biden. According to White House insiders, he is said to have described the German population as “Bratwurst-eating bastards” in reference to protests in Germany.

At least this is the information in a Twitter post published by US journalist Garland Nixon. However, it is not mentioned which protests Biden was referring to with his statement.

Nonetheless, the claim is spreading widely online, including on some social networks and several websites . For example, one user comments: “Gerland Nixon drops a bomb”.

References to satire from the journalist himself

Already in the comments under the tweet there are indications that the alleged quote from Biden is made up. Some suspicious users asked under the post which source the journalist Nixon used for the quote. He answered this question several times - but always with different names. Sometimes he wrote that the source was “George Carlin”, sometimes he replied with “Lenny Bruce” – these are two names of deceased US comedians, which underlines the satirical meaning of the quote.

There is also a reference to the inauthenticity of the quote in another answer. Garland wrote there that his sources were “anonymous intelligence officials.”

the following under his original post : "Breaking news: No matter how absurdly satirical you make your tweet, there's always some brain-dead moron who will ask you for a 'source'."

Several satirical posts also in the following days

In the days following the Biden tweet, Nixon published other satirical posts that followed a similar pattern. For example, as "breaking news" he claimed in a post that, according to German government insiders, Chancellor Scholz had received a message from Adolf Hitler's ghost, which could obviously be described as satire. Another tweet said that German and Danish investigators had found Vladimir Putin's passport near the site of the Nord Stream pipeline explosion.

Conclusion

Mimikama Rating: SATIRE

As Correctiv reports , Garland's Jan. 26 Twitter post is the oldest version of the claim found using Google's search engine.

According to our search, there are no serious media reports that Biden really called the Germans “Bratwurst-eating bastards”. The White House press office has not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
