The claim

Justin Bieber's one-sided facial paralysis is said to be a result of vaccination damage caused by a corona vaccination.

Our conclusion

There is no evidence of this. His vaccination status is unknown, there is only one similar case (in which the vaccination was the trigger rather than the reason), an article in which Bieber blames the vaccination comes from a satirical site.

A few days ago, the musician Justin Bieber canceled all concerts and demonstrated the reason for this in a video on Instagram : He has Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which is caused by a virus that attacks the nerves in the ear, which is why he currently has one has unilateral facial paralysis.
It didn't take long before opponents of vaccination claimed that this was definitely vaccine damage caused by a corona vaccination, and some even referred to an entire article in which Bieber supposedly confirmed this - but it was an article from a satirical site!

The video

In the almost three-minute long video on Instagram, Bieber demonstrates his one-sided facial paralysis:

Incidentally, at no point in the video does he claim that the one-sided facial paralysis, known as Ramsay Hunt syndrome, was caused by a corona vaccination.

“But Bieber says so in an article!”

In fact, there is an article titled “ Justin Bieber: 'The vaccine ruined my life' ” related to the video that was published on the Vancouver Times site (see HERE ).

If you click on the link, you will notice that it has been clearly (subsequently) marked as satire - precisely because many people seemed to take the article seriously, even though it was in the "About Us" section of the site (see HERE ) it is also noted that this is a purely satirical site with made-up articles.

What is Ramsay Hunt Syndrome?

This is a special form of shingles as part of a secondary manifestation of an infection with the varicella-zoster virus. So simply put: a renewed outbreak of the virus that caused chickenpox.

The varicella-zoster virus causes chickenpox during the first infection and does not disappear after recovery, but then rests in the ganglion cells . It can be reactivated later in life, for example due to a weakened immune system caused by a previous other infection, causing shingles and in some cases (1 in approximately 20,000 annually) Ramsay Hunt syndrome.

Can Ramsay Hunt syndrome be triggered by a corona vaccination?

It is absolutely unknown when and how often the musician was vaccinated - but that would be important to know if one claims that his one-sided facial paralysis is a result of vaccination. All that is known is that Bieber tested positive for COVID-19 in February 2022

So far there is only a single, documented case (see HERE ), in which a previously healthy, 37-year-old man developed Ramsay Hunt syndrome a few days after a corona vaccination. It is believed that the vaccination weakened the man's immune system, which triggered the second manifestation of the infection.

So the one (!) known case was not a vaccine injury caused by the corona vaccination, but rather an outbreak of the syndrome, which occurs in any other illness that triggers an immune deficiency (including an illness with COVID-19 ) would probably have occurred.

A causal connection between Ramsay Hunt syndrome and a corona vaccination has never been established.

Conclusion

There is no evidence that Bieber's one-sided facial paralysis is related to a corona vaccination. His vaccination status is unknown, and an article blaming the vaccination on Bieber came from a satirical site.

It is unknown what exactly triggered Ramsay Hunt syndrome in Bieber, but a vaccination is very unlikely to be the trigger. It's worth mentioning, however, that not only did Bieber get infected with COIVD-19 in February '22, but he's generally not the healthiest:

In 2020, Justin Bieber revealed that in addition to suffering from Lyme disease , he also has a "severe case of chronic mononucleosis that affects his skin, neurological functions, energy and overall health."
