A truly “satirical” masterpiece
The makers of Postillon have struck again! With an article that was published in 2011 but is making the rounds again, they show once again what satire can do. The article “Study: Deportation of Nazis would save billions from state treasury ” caused excitement but also confusion. The study, which doesn't even exist, supposedly showed that deporting Nazis from Germany would save the state treasury by 100 billion euros annually. Cheers to irony!

While social media is in turmoil
But what happens when satire pushes the boundaries of its satirical realm and enters the unforgiving world of social media? Well, it is shared, spread and discussed like a real report, which only brings a smile to the poor old postilion.
Media literacy to the rescue!
This brings us to an important skill that is unfortunately becoming increasingly rare these days: media literacy. Who would have thought that distinguishing between fact and fiction, between true reporting and satirical representation, could be a real challenge?
A little lesson in satire recognition
But don't worry dear readers, we at Mimikama are here to help. The first step to recognizing satire is to look at the source. The Postillon is known for his satire and his desire to play with serious topics. So when you read an article in Postillon, always remember: it could (and probably is) satire!
What now?
Well, we laugh, we share and we enjoy the satire, knowing full well that it is satire. We thank the authors who make us think and laugh with their funny insights. And we should always strive to sharpen our media skills. Because that's what counts at the end of the day: taking a critical look at the world, whether real or satirical.
