Using a technical trick, the fraudsters manage to display the real phone number to the police!
The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) warns: Nationwide fraudulent calls from alleged employees of various police authorities
Fraudulent calls are once again occurring nationwide, this time from alleged employees of the police authorities Federal Criminal Police Office, Europol and Interpol.
The target of the callers is often older people. On the phone, the perpetrators falsely claim that personal data has been stolen from those affected and that criminals are now allegedly using this data to commit crimes. In addition to trying to use this deception to persuade their victims to hand over or transfer amounts of money, the perpetrators also try to obtain information about their personal and financial circumstances in order to prepare further crimes.
When making calls, the perpetrators use a special technical procedure, which is why their victims are shown a telephone number that actually belongs to Europol/Interpol or a German police station.
Please note: The police will never ask you to transfer money. This also applies to the Federal Criminal Police Office as well as Europol and Interpol.
