On February 1st, 2023, an internet user was sent a perfidious, blackmailing email. In this case, an unknown cybercriminal claimed that she was recorded with her own webcam while she was watching a porn film. There was also a threat that a compilation would be made in which the injured party would be shown masturbating to the porn film. The perpetrators demanded $1,400 in Bitcoin.

Blackmail email

I greet you! Here is the final warning! Your system is hacked. We have copied all data from your device to our servers. Furthermore, we have recorded a video from your camera where you are watching a porn film. My virus infected your device through the adult website you recently visited. If you don't know how it works - here are the details. The Trojan virus gives me complete access and control over your device. As a result, I can see your entire screen, turn on the camera and the microphone without you even knowing anything about it. I took the video from your screen and the camera and made a film in one part where you can see you masturbating, and in the other part you can see the porn film you were watching at the same time. I see the entire list of your contacts from the cell phone and all social networks. I can send this film to all contacts on your cell phone, email and social networks with a single click. Furthermore, I can send your email and messenger data to all over the world. This will destroy your reputation forever. If you want to avoid such events, do the following- Transfer 1400 USD (American dollars) to my Bitcoin wallet (if you don't know how to do this, write in the Google search box: "Buy Bitcoin"). My Bitcoin wallet (BTC wallet): bc1qm9e5rdefxa2e8h647ddwjgtx3fhxq2j9t0vsel As soon as the payment has been transferred, your video will be destroyed and you will not hear from me again. You have 50 hours (just over 2 days) to make this payment. I receive an automatic notification that I have read this email. The timer will also start automatically after you read the letter. Don't complain anywhere because my BTC wallet cannot be followed. This email is also untraceable and is created automatically and therefore any response would be pointless. If you share this letter with someone, our system will send the request to the servers and they will immediately upload all the data to social networks. Exchanging passwords for social networks, email and on the device does not help you as all the data is already downloaded from my server cluster. I wish you luck and don't do anything stupid. Consider your reputation.

This is a well-known scam.

Often peppered with personal data, attempts are made to give potential victims the feeling that the perpetrators actually have access to the PC. However, the data usually comes from purchased and/or cracked data lists. This goes so far that sometimes there are even telephone numbers or bank details in the emails.

  • If you receive such an email, you should definitely report it to the police. This can also be done easily via online viewing.
  • You should also check your bank accounts and change your passwords.
  • The well-known information about sensitive data should always be observed. This means using strong passwords and a different password for each account.
  • In principle, hacking the laptop/PC camera is entirely possible. If you want to be on the safe side, you can simply cover or tape the lens shut.
  • If such emails have attachments, they should under no circumstances be opened, otherwise you could download viruses, Trojans and the like onto your devices without being noticed.
