At first glance, the website appears professional. The imprint and the photo of the German owners inspire trust. But: Anyone who books and pays there loses their money and has no accommodation.

Distinguish fakes from trustworthy offers
Are you currently planning your vacation in Croatia and looking for offers on the Internet? Caution: Not every booking website is reputable. Check online offers carefully. These are clues to spot fakes when planning your vacation!
Price & Availability
Compare prices. If the price is significantly cheaper than other providers, it is probably a scam. Also check availability. If bargains like those on ferienhaeuser-porec.de are still available on almost all dates, alarm bells should ring!
Location: Does the house even exist?
Check the location of the property. You can use Google Maps or other mapping services to check whether the accommodation actually exists there. Ask for the address if it is not listed on the website and find the property on the online map.
At ferienhaeuser-porec.de the accommodations are displayed with a marker on a Google map. However, the holiday homes El Cameo and La Alhambra as well as the Villa Residencial cannot be found at the marked location. These accommodations definitely don't exist there!
Using a reverse image search, you can find out that these houses are not in Croatia, but in Spain! The criminals copied pictures of accommodation from various real holiday platforms and uploaded them to the fake platform.
Inconsistencies on the website
Click through the website. At ferienhaeuser-porec.de, for example, you notice that a couple named Peter and Melanie are named as owners in “About Us”. However, “Melanie Gaßner” and “Sandra Gawel” are listed in the imprint.
Search for experiences on the internet
Look for reviews before booking. But remember: Finding nothing at all is not a good sign, because fraudulent websites are usually only online until the first victims warn others about them!
Check the list of fraudulent holiday booking platforms
Find the website in the list of fraudulent vacation booking platforms . If the website is listed there, it is a scam!
Check imprint
Check the information in the legal notice. If there is no imprint at all, you should stay away from the booking platform. If data is provided, we recommend that you check it for accuracy.
I have booked – what now?
Contact your bank.
Try to have the money returned. However, the chances of success are rather low. Be sure to report it to the police (HERE for Austria and HERE for Germany ) .
In keeping with the topic: Fake ad instead of a holiday home
