The friendly island people of Britain will soon be leaving the EU. Is mad cow disease perhaps also to blame, as a map supposedly proves?

The picture that is circulating is intended to prove that there appears to be a connection: all parts of Great Britain in which mad cow disease was most widespread in the 90s are also said to be the parts of the country that voted for Brexit. Conclusion: Everyone who voted for Brexit must be “insane”.

Now it's not the case that everyone in the areas where BSE spread also got Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), so there could be something wrong with the map.
Let's take a closer look at the cards again:

Color games

Nothing was done here other than coloring the original map, which actually shows the Brexit voting decisions. Business Insider , among others :

As a comparison, here is the spread of BSE in the period from 1986 to 1996:

Although you can also see here that there were actually more BSE cases in the south than in the north, it should be noted that they only correspond superficially, and it also concerns herds of cattle with BSE. As far as we know, cattle that had BSE were not eligible to vote and had long since died of the disease. People who were infected with BSE and thus got CJD are even thinner:

Conclusion

The map is not real, but colored to satirically show that many people think it is a bad idea for Great Britain to leave the EU.
