Who doesn't know it? You're walking around and then there's a bridge just standing there. Just like that. You can't use it anymore, it has no real function.
And then someone comes along and takes a photo of this bridge. A small text is then quickly added to the photo and you ask yourself: Does such a building really exist? You read about it:
A monument to German planning security. The ancient buildings can still be admired today. Hundreds of years from now, archaeologists and scientists will certainly ask themselves why this altar in Euskirchen was built, or not?

Well, admittedly, it's not an altar that you can see in the photo. It is simply a bridge. And it just sits there. Here is the corresponding sharepic, which can be found on Facebook:

Fact check Euskirchen
Does this bridge actually exist in Euskirchen? The answer is quite simple: yes! There is a bridge in Euskirchen that just stands there. And now it gets exciting: the name of the bridge is “SoDa Bridge”. Here is the relevant location on Google .
This thing stands in a field between Frauenberg and Elsig near Euskirchen and is probably one of the most famous representatives of its genre, because it is not the only building of this type in Germany.

The bridge was built in the late 70s. website Kuladig.de explains why it was never really connected :
Due to a homeowner's lawsuit against the route of the motorway - it runs too close to the outskirts of Euskirchen - the process was delayed. When the A 56 was downgraded to the B 56 federal highway during the planning phase, the original planning basis was lost
Trivia: The bridge can also be seen on the cover of the record “Aff un zo” by the band BAP ( compare ).
SoDa Bridges
SoDa bridges even have their own Wikipedia entry. In it you learn that these are names for buildings that are just “there” and currently do not fulfill any function and cannot be used due to a lack of access.
The online encyclopedia gives several examples of bridges that can be found in Germany, but also in the Netherlands, Switzerland and New Zealand. The entry for this can be found HERE .
By the way, bridges are often built as “SoDa” bridges because of their weight; the ramps come two years later so that they actually hit the bridge element and stay that way. If both were built at the same time, the bridge would sink and cars would rush down 20 - 30 cm when passing over the bridge (or up again). This means that the bridge compacts the subsoil with its weight and then remains at the same height as the ramps.
