According to the police in Bucharest, the car was driving on Wednesday. April 6, 2022 at around 6 a.m. against the gate. A video shows the car bursting into flames.

According to the police, firefighters were able to put out the fire, but any help came too late for the driver. There is currently no immediate information about a possible motive. According to local reports, the car crashed into the building's fence at high speed. It was able to break through the makeshift barriers that had been erected around the embassy following public protests against Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

A statement from Bucharest police said: “This morning at around 06:00 an incident was reported involving a car that left the road and hit the fence of a diplomatic mission. The driver died and the fire department had to intervene to put out the fire in the car.”

+++UPDATE 4/6/22 / 12:45 p.m.+++

The man who crashed his car into the gate of the Russian Embassy in Bucharest has reportedly been identified as Bogdan Drăghici (head of the TATA Association). Drăghici himself is no stranger to crime, having been accused of sexually abusing his stepdaughter when she was 10 years old.

According to Antena 3, Bogdan Drăghici was sentenced yesterday to 15 years and 4 months in prison. This may also be the trigger why Drăghici killed himself. The investigation will take personal reasons for the acts into account, while ruling out the possibility of a terrorist attack. The Russian Embassy in Bucharest expresses its condolences to the man's relatives.

Bogdan Drăghici, a lawyer by profession, became known to the public as president of the TATA Association, an NGO that defends the rights of fathers towards their own children in connection with divorce proceedings.

24 hours earlier, Drăghici posted on his Facebook page: “I am Ukrainian too! It would be wonderful if we consider all Ukrainians until the terrible war that endangers all of humanity is finally over!”
